Bids awarded in Mass. stimulus road projects
BOSTON -- Bids have been awarded for the first five road projects in Massachusetts funded by federal stimulus funds.
Gov. Deval Patrick's administration announced Friday that construction on projects in Adams, Bourne, Bridgewater/Middleborough, Lexington/Reading, and Swansea will begin in the next two weeks.
The projects, which include road resurfacing and traffic sign replacement, were all awarded to the lowest bidder. Transportation officials say in four of the projects, the awarded bid was below the original estimated cost.
The five initial projects have an estimated value of $11.5 million.
Patrick praised the quick bidding process, as winning bidders received notices to proceed five weeks after the projects were advertised.
