North Attleboro residents urged to be on alert after bear sighting

North Attleboro residents urged to be on alert after bear sighting

NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. -- A black bear has been spotted several times roaming around North Attleboro and residents are being told to be on alert.

Barbara Gagne's family has spotted the bear in her North Attleboro backyard a few times.

"I screamed to my husband, I think there's a bear in the backyard," Barbara said.

The bear appeared to have an appetite for bird seed. The Gagne's have had to replace several swiped feeders.

"When he was down just eating the bird seed he didn't look that big, but when he reached up you could tell he was a pretty good size," said Neil Gagne, Barbara's husband.

The family managed to get the bear on tape roaming around their yard.

The animal had also been spotted on Fales, Hoppin Hill and Sheldonville roads, which has the town putting out a warning.

Residents are urged not to leave children and small pets unattended, remove trash, pet food and bird seed and notify the North Attleboro police if anyone sees a bear.
