Police seize files from superintendent's home
METHUEN, Mass. -- State and local police have seized files, computer equipment and a small black trunk from the Methuen home of Lawrence schools Superintendent Wilfredo Laboy.
Lawrence Police Chief John Romero tells The Eagle-Tribune that Tuesday night's search was part of an ongoing criminal investigation of alleged financial improprieties at the school department. He did not disclose the exact nature of what was taken.
The search of Laboy's home follows a Friday night search of the School Department during which computer equipment and files were confiscated.
The 58-year-old Laboy was home at the time of the search. His lawyer, Scott Gleason, refused to comment.
Laboy has been on stress-related medical leave for several weeks but had said he would be back at work this week.
