Conn. woman pleads not guilty in Mass. crash

PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- A Connecticut woman has pleaded not guilty to drunken driving charges in connection with a head-on crash in rural Massachusetts that resulted in the death of the other driver.
Pamela Balsamo of Barkhamsted, Conn. was arraigned Thursday in Berkshire Superior Court on charges of motor vehicle homicide while under the influence of alcohol, operating to endanger, failure to stay within marked lanes, and speeding.
She was released on personal recognizance.
Police say the 47-year-old Balsamo was driving south in the northbound lane of Route 8 in Sandisfield on March 18 when she collided with a car driven by 29-year-old Erin Dufour of Tolland, Mass.
Dufour was pronounced dead at the scene. Balsamo was hospitalized with serious injuries.
