Elderly woman dies after Woburn crash

WOBURN, Mass. -- An 84-year-old woman who was a passenger in a car driven by her elderly husband has died after their car collided with another car in Woburn on Tuesday.

Police said Joseph Casey, 83, of Malden, was speeding in his Toyota Camry when he turned onto Russell Street and struck a Chrysler Sebring driven by a 77-year-old Woburn woman.

The man's wife, Katherine, also of Malden, died in result of the crash.

The Woburn woman, whose name has not been released, was in serious condition at a local hospital.

This accident came at the same time lawmakers were debating new rules for elderly drivers.

There will be several more hearings to debate the issue. It could be some time before any legislation is passed.
