Man charged with having suspected explosive

NORTON, Mass. -- A Norton man has been ordered held on $10,000 bail after police found what they think was a homemade bomb in his car.

Prosecutors say Jason Driscoll, 37, pleaded not guilty to one count of possession of a suspected explosive device at his arraignment Tuesday in district court.

Driscoll was pulled over just before 7 p.m. on Monday after police got a tip from one of his neighbors. He was arrested near a baseball field. Police said they found an explosive device in his car.

Officers searched his apartment and found other dangerous materials, but Driscoll's attorney says his client has done nothing wrong.

"Much has been made about him being in the vicinity of a baseball field, but he was also in the vicinity of a sandpit that's consistent with someone that's going to light off fireworks in an area where nobody's around," said Driscoll's attorney.

Neighbors said Driscoll has been lighting fireworks and other small bombs around his apartment for a while now.

He is being held behind bars until his next court date.
