MANSFIELD, Mass. -- A mother in Mansfield is turning to congress for help after she was denied the ability to be buried with her late son, who was tragically killed in Iraq last year.

Denise Anderson's son, 21-year-old Army Spc. Corey Shea, died Nov. 21, 2008 when he was shot and killed by an Iraqi soldier.

Anderson wishes to be buried next to her son at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne but her request was denied by the state department of Veteran's Affairs.

The law currently allows only spouses and minor or unmarried children to be buried alongside servicemen and woman at national cemeteries.

"Who expects to bury their child?," Anderson asked. "Especially not being able to say goodbye to them, having a closed coffin and everything. I didn't get to see him at all and ... it was just very tough."

Anderson is hoping for the law to be amended so that soldiers with no spouse or children can be buried with immediate family members at a national cemetery.

Whether it takes months or years, Anderson is hopeful that the law will eventually be amended and hopes that this will help others in similar situations.

"They do an amazing job," Anderson said. "I am proud of every last soldier out there. I'm proud of our troops."
