Court hearing for terror suspect postponed
BOSTON -- A detention hearing has been postponed for a Massachusetts man charged in an alleged terror plot to kill two prominent U.S. politicians and shoot people at American shopping malls.
Tarek Mehanna of Sudbury, is accused of conspiring with two other men. Authorities say they tried to get into terrorist training camps in the Middle East. When that failed, they allegedly talked about killing two members of the executive branch and plotted to randomly shoot mall shoppers.
Mehanna had a detention hearing scheduled for Friday, but his defense attorney asked for more time to prepare. The hearing has been rescheduled for Nov. 12.
Prosecutors have said they will argue that the 27-year-old Mehanna is a danger to the community and should be held without bail while awaiting trial.
