Robber targeting female clerks in Waltham

WALTHAM, Mass. -- Police are investigating several robberies at local businesses where female clerks were working alone.

The first incident happened on Monday at 7:15 p.m. A man holding a box cutter entered Shah Dollar Store on Moody Street and attempted to rob the clerk. The suspect fled without any money.

Later that night, a man robbed the Banks Square Shell station at Main and Weston Streets. No weapon was shown, but the suspect made off with thousands of dollars.

On Wednesday around 5:45 p.m., a man robbed the clerk at River Street Food Mart on River Street. No weapon was shown, but the suspect kept one hand in his pocket during the robbery. He made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Descriptions in all three robberies are similar: a white man, about 5 feet, 4 inches tall, thin to average build, wearing a dark blue hooded sweatshirt and sometimes a ski mask.

Police believe that all the incidents are related at this time.
