Two killed in motorcycle accident in Reading
READING, Mass. -- Two people were killed when their motorcycle collided with a pickup truck in Reading Thursday morning.
The victims, a 32-year-old male and a 25-year-old female, were taken to Lahey Clinic in Burlington. Both were wearing their helmets at the time of the accident.
The motorcycle and a pickup truck crashed at the intersection of Lowell and High Streets at around 10 a.m. Thursday.
"Seeing the gentleman being worked on, you want so desperately for them to be okay, you want so desperately to have a positive outcome and it was just sad to see that, to see someone lying there, and all you can do is hope," said Elizabeth Demarco, a neighbor.
Police say it is a dangerous intersection where multiple roads come together. The motorcycle was on Lowell Street when it slammed into a pickup truck coming from High Street.
"You just need to slow down, and check two or three times at least before you can pull out because you never know when someone's going to just pull out," said neighbor Leslie Narahara of the intersection.
The driver of the pickup truck was not injured. Police still don't know why the crash happened.
People have been dropping flowers by the intersection all day to remind people to drive safely. Neighbors hope that drivers will see the flowers and slow down.
