City worker accused of selling drugs appears in court

BOSTON -- New allegations arose Monday against a Boston city employee accused of selling drugs.

John Forbes, an East Boston city liaison worker, was arrested last week for allegedly dealing Oxycodone pills and marijuana. Forbes allegedly sold 125 Oxycontin pills for $5,000 to an informant and arranged to sell a pound of marijuana for $6,000.

On Monday, prosecutors also made some eye-opening uncharged allegations that Forbes discussed dealing drugs in City Hall with a confidential informant. He also spoke with the informant about getting him a job. Forbes is also accused of harboring an accused drug dealer and convicted murderer.

At the time of Forbes' arrest, Boston Mayor Tom Menino said he was "shocked at disappointed" about the charges.

In a separate court hearing Monday morning for another accused drug dealer, prosecutors said Forbes and the other dealer discussed burning down the home of a potential witness.

Forbes was taken into custody after the arraignment Monday.

His lawyers asked that he be released to attend a treatment program for his Oxycodone addiction, which the judge took under advisement.
