LYNN, Mass. -- A suspect appeared in Lynn District Court on Tuesday hours after leading police on a high-speed chase through several cities.

Jose Anderson, 34, of Lynn, was arraigned on charges of carjacking, assault and battery in the presence of a police officer, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop for police and several other traffic violations.

The incident reportedly began Monday night after Anderson noticed that a female driver had left her keys inside her car, which was parked outside the Salvation Army at the corner of Monroe and Market streets in Lynn.

Police said Anderson entered the vehicle and pushed out the driver's 13-year-old daughter, who had been listening to music in the car.

"I was listening to my iPod in the car and he pushes me out...All he said was, 'get out, get out," said Mary Luz Almeida, the 13-year old girl Anderson pushed out of the car.

Anderson refused to pull over for a Lynn officer, according to police. Officers reportedly proceeded to chase Anderson from Lynn through Saugus to Revere, to Route 1 in Malden and then back into Saugus.

During the drive, Anderson allegedly hit five vehicles and ran eight red lights.

Two flat tires ended Anderson's escape attempt in Saugus, where he was apprehended by police.

During his arraignment, prosecutors revealed Anderson has many aliases and a long criminal history.

A judge ordered Anderson held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing Jan. 5.

The mother of the suspect's nine-year old son said Anderson came here from Puerto Rico about two weeks ago and has spent half his life in jail.

The driver and girl's mother said her daughter did not want to attend to Anderson's arraignment, because she was still shaken by the incident.

"She was scared. She don't want to stay never in the car," said her mother.

The mother stated she wanted them to attend, so they could see the suspect's face in court. Meanwhile, the daughter told 7NEWS she advises other kids to keep the doors locked when waiting in a vehicle alone.
