Alleged gun-toting teen banned from Byfield school
BYFIELD, Mass. -- The student who allegedly brought a gun to a middle school in Byfield will not be allowed to return to classes on the campus.
A student at Triton Regional Middle School told the principal he saw a classmate with a gun, according to police.
School officials contacted Newbury police, and the teen who allegedly brought the gun to school was arrested. Nobody was hurt.
The suspect appeared Wednesday in juvenile court.
School officials did not look down the school at the time, stating they didn't want to incite the student to behave rashly.
"Really in that situation was determined to not lock down the school, because the student was not that we knew that he potentially had a firearm. So the idea was really to remove that student, get him into a safe and secure area without then alarming the school and heightening people's anxiety or trying to make that student anxious and nervous," said Jarod Fulgoni, the school's principal.
They are commending the student who brought the situation to their attention and stress that parents have no need to worry.
However, school officials do plan to meet with parents to address any concerns they might have.
