FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (WHDH) -- The town that previously won awards for water quality is upset over the discolored water coming from its faucets.

Pictures and cell phone video captured the dirty water, which is the color of coffee for some residents.

“The other night it was totally disgusting,” said Lorraine Teague, a Foxboro resident.

The problems with the water suddenly seem worse than ever.

“I don’t cook with it anymore. Each night I come home I run the water to see if I’m going to have clean water and each morning I have to run the tub to see if I can shower,” said Teague.

On Monday night, frustration boiled over for Teague and others who live around Chestnut Street. Residents showed pictures of discolored water to the Water and Sewer Commission, but the panel decided to raise rates.

“I think it’s horrible,” said Teague.

The commission is aware of the sediment in the mains that built up over the years, but it admits there is no quick fix and a temporary solution of flushing the system is still months away.

“Our attitude is ‘We’re going to fix it’ as soon as we can,” said Roger Hill, Foxborough department of public works director.

“The only thing we can say -- I mean people ask us ‘Does it meet water quality standards?’ and no it doesn’t. Will it poison you? No it won’t,” said Bill Euerle of the Foxborough Water and Sewer Commission.

Many residents who are debating moving to the other side of town where the water is better are now thinking about moving out of the town all together, unless they get relief soon.

“Hopefully it will get cleaned up. Hopefully soon,” said Teague.

Foxborough does have a $7 million water treatment plant under construction, but that won’t go online until sometime this fall.
