Heard rumors of the weekend being a washout? Well hear me now and thank me later. It doesn't look half bad: showers move out tomorrow afternoon, and the sun returns on Sunday. How's that for making the season bright?
Faster-moving showers are to thank for the improvement. They're pretty lightweight tonight and tomorrow, and they just zip along a stalled warm front parked south of Long Island. Because this front doesn't come through until Monday, we're not expecting the temperatures to budge. Expect highs near 50 both tomorrow and Sunday.
When we do get on the other side of the warm front, look bout. With a gusty southwest wind, high temperatures (LATE Monday ((gotta give it time)) will be near 60 degrees! This warmth WILL stick around for the Pats game too, but I'm not expecting it to remain dry. Scattered showers will zip through Gillette (there will be a few dry hours too) on a gusty southwest wind.
Same ol', same 'ol, eh snow hounds? No flakes in sight, no deep cold air, no sign of a pattern cha...
...wait, there is. Still thinking that the middle of the month we'll see a change to a colder pattern. While we won't be sub-zero, we will be cold enough to keep these storms snowy. And there are already some prospects for white in the 7-10 day forecast:
Tuesday as a storm pulls away some cold may shoot in to change the rain to snow as it ends.
Next Saturday there might be a more significant storm cruising through New England (very tenative...but I'm sayin' "there's a chance".)
Make it a good weekend!

So it's the unofficial start of summer this weekend and officially, the average high this time of year hits 70 degrees. So you'd think we have a good shot at BBQ weather right? Not much of a chance today with highs reaching near 50 this morning, only to fall back into the low to mid 40s this afternoon as a cold rain settles in.

Rain, rain, rain...
...but for many today was a day of hurry up and wait. Sure there were showers, but not every minute was washed out. With the events unfolding tonight, that's about to change.

Heavy rain is on the move! All afternoon long it was stalled over Western Massachusetts and Connecticut. Heavy pulses of rain traveled over the same towns and cities - a process meteorologists call "training" - resulting in flash flooding in some counties to our west.

Although my forecast was busted today, there was one good thing that came out of it.
Stability.
That gray overcast that hung over the eastern half of the Commonwealth provided a stablizing influence to our atmosphere. The cool air blowing in from the ocean kept the temperatures in the upper 50s and low 60s all the way back to Metrowest. While that makes for lousy short-and-t-shirt weather, it is poison to thunderstorms.
