The Cold Gets Colder

Posted by Chris Lambert

With a fresh snow pack, we'll have no trouble keeping the cold air around.  In fact the cold gets colder this week as high pressure to our north refreshes the Canadian air mass in place.  Temps run in the mid 30s the next couple days, then fall back to the 20s for highs by mid-week.

For First Night in Boston, clouds are our friend.  Any clouds we have move in this evening help prevent temperatures from free falling, and that means it's a slow trend down with temps around midnight in Boston at 32.  Factor in the breeze, and it'll feel more like 22 outside.   Yeah, it'll be cool, you'll need to dress warm, but it's a long way away from the arctic air that blasted us the morning of Jan 1st, 2009.  That morning, we hit 6 degrees in Boston and 0 in Worcester.

Overall, the pattern looks cold, but dry this week with just a few flurries possible by Friday.  Although this week is cold, long range indications are for a warmer pattern over the 2nd week of the New Year.

Have fun tonight everyone!  Stay safe.

Saved by The Sea Breeze

Although my forecast was busted today, there was one good thing that came out of it.

Stability.

That gray overcast that hung over the eastern half of the Commonwealth provided a stablizing influence to our atmosphere. The cool air blowing in from the ocean kept the temperatures in the upper 50s and low 60s all the way back to Metrowest. While that makes for lousy short-and-t-shirt weather, it is poison to thunderstorms.

What a day! Breakneck temperature swings, thunder, tornadoes in Western Mass....and we're still in late May!

Summ-ah!

With the snap of the fingers we were thrown into summer this afternoon. Heat, humidity, A/C and shorts - with a hazy sun to boot. But with the sea breeze knocking back the temperatures (and bringing in a round of downpours this evening), there are changes afoot.

Warming Up and Unsettled

Posted by Chris Lambert

Well, it certainly was a great weekend weather-wise until this afternoon when the temps dropped and light showers moved in from west to east.  Despite the cool down, the theme for this upcoming week is warmer with higher humidity.  It'll also be unsettled at times.
