Our annual January Thaw is upon us for the next several days. For this thaw to occur, we need help from that jet stream.
That map shows where the jet stream is, barely on that map!! Haha, it's up in Canada until the middle of next week and that means temps will feel more like March, than January.
Today is day one of the thaw so look for afternoon temps to reach the mid 40s under mostly sunny skies. The only knock on today will be a southwest breeze gusting from 7-17mph. Still a great winter day though. Skies are clear tonight with temps back into the 20s--watch for areas of refreeze.
Wednesday offers more mild weather but also more clouds that are tied to a cool front. I chose cool rather than cold or arctic front because after this front slips through here tomorrow evening the temperatures on Thursday will still reach the lower 40s--above normal! Windy conditions on Thursday will take points away from the day's weather score.
Heading to Friday we see some unsettled weather as a weak storm pesters us with clouds & showers. Some of those showers will take the form of freezing rain late Friday morning outside of I-495. Sunshine returns by Saturday!

Although my forecast was busted today, there was one good thing that came out of it.
Stability.
That gray overcast that hung over the eastern half of the Commonwealth provided a stablizing influence to our atmosphere. The cool air blowing in from the ocean kept the temperatures in the upper 50s and low 60s all the way back to Metrowest. While that makes for lousy short-and-t-shirt weather, it is poison to thunderstorms.

What a day! Breakneck temperature swings, thunder, tornadoes in Western Mass....and we're still in late May!

With the snap of the fingers we were thrown into summer this afternoon. Heat, humidity, A/C and shorts - with a hazy sun to boot. But with the sea breeze knocking back the temperatures (and bringing in a round of downpours this evening), there are changes afoot.

Well, it certainly was a great weekend weather-wise until this afternoon when the temps dropped and light showers moved in from west to east. Despite the cool down, the theme for this upcoming week is warmer with higher humidity. It'll also be unsettled at times.
