Say It Ain't Snow

Yup! After most towns cracked the 60 degree mark this afternoon, we have to talk about snow in the forecast by Wednesday morning. It won't be a big storm, but certainly a reminder that we're in winter, and winter certainly will be felt across much of the country over the next couple of weeks.
Despite hitting 60 in Boston today, we were 9 degrees short of the record set back in 1932. In Worcester, the high of 53 missed the record by 13 degrees! Hard to believe we were that far off huh?
That warm weather slides out to sea tonight and colder weather builds in as temps start off Tuesday morning near 30 degrees.
With colder weather in place, and a wave of low pressure riding along a front stalled just to our south, we do have to introduce some snow to the forecast Wednesday morning into early Wednesday afternoon. It's a fast moving pattern, so timing and placement of these lows can be challenging, but right now I expect some light snow to breakout just before daybreak Wednesday. There may be enough warm air mixed in to change wet snow flakes to rain drops across southeast Mass, especially near the coast. It doesn't look like a big impact storm, but 1-3" of snow will slow the roads down a touch, especially in the morning with temps near freezing away from the coast.
A quick shot of cold air moves in Thursday night and Friday, followed by seasonable weather over the weekend. For the AFC Championship game, temps run mid to upper 30s for tailgating, upper 20s for kickoff, and then cooling off even more for the victory ride home from the game. Go Pats!!!!!!!!!!!
Next week still looks cold.

If you were caught in those 'cloudbursts' today, you had more than you could handle in the rain department. Torrents fell in a short amount of time - what we deem 'flash flooding' in the weather biz. Since it happens suddenly, the National Weather Service has adopted the acronym TADD:

Heat and a bit of humidity fed a strong - and sometimes severe - line of thunderstorms today. By the time the dinner hour rolled around (6pm-ish), the storms had consolidated into a line. Everyone got a drink of water and a big drop in temperatures - some falling nearly 20 degrees in minutes!
We'll Take Average

Well, we had a lot of clouds this afternoon, but at least not a lot of rain. Sure a few showers were out there, scattered about, but hopefully they didn't ruin any plans you had with dad. Temps made it into the mid to upper 70s, which is close to the average for this time of year. In fact, the whole 7-day forecast is within 5 degrees of average each and every day. That means lots of upper 70s and lower 80s on the board. Not bad being average this time of year, huh?
Happy Father's Day

Happy Father's Day to all you dads out there, and to my dad as well. So what's on tap for the day? Golf, grilling, just hanging out? Whatever it is, all and all, it's still a pretty good day for dad weather-wise. I wish I could say the Father's Day forecast exactly repeats Saturday, but we do have a few late afternoon showers to track.
