On The Move

Posted by Jeremy Reiner

After a solid week of cold here in New England (Boston's longest sub-32 degree stretch since 2005) we can finally talk about some warmer weather...eventually. Today will be the day we move the arctic air out of here and the result will be some weather. Just clouds this morning but as we work into the afternoon, snow will start to fly (2-3pm) and continue up until 8pm. Even though the burst of snow will be brief it will occur during the evening commute. Here's how much snow I'm thinking:

Needless to say roads, sidewalks & driveways will be slick anytime after 4pm right into the overnight hours. For the overnight hours, not much precipitation but there will be some pockets of coastal drizzle & freezing drizzle well inland. Temps hold in the low 30s tonight.

Tuesday is a bleh day with cloudy skies throughout but no rain or snow. Temps will be our warmest in over a week with afternoon highs in the upper 30s. That will feel quite mild after last week. Wednesday will be downright warm---like near record warmth with many tows reaching the upper 50s by afternoon (record high is 63). The hitch is there won't be any sun and as we move from day to night on Wednesday, plan on showers, downpours & even a few rumbles of thunder! That is all due to a cold front that will send us back to reality by Thursday & beyond.

Have a great week!

Come On Ride The Train

Heavy rain is on the move! All afternoon long it was stalled over Western Massachusetts and Connecticut. Heavy pulses of rain traveled over the same towns and cities - a process meteorologists call "training" - resulting in flash flooding in some counties to our west.

Saved by The Sea Breeze

Although my forecast was busted today, there was one good thing that came out of it.

Stability.

That gray overcast that hung over the eastern half of the Commonwealth provided a stablizing influence to our atmosphere. The cool air blowing in from the ocean kept the temperatures in the upper 50s and low 60s all the way back to Metrowest. While that makes for lousy short-and-t-shirt weather, it is poison to thunderstorms.

Storms, Heat, Sea Breezes

What a day! Breakneck temperature swings, thunder, tornadoes in Western Mass....and we're still in late May!

Summ-ah!

With the snap of the fingers we were thrown into summer this afternoon. Heat, humidity, A/C and shorts - with a hazy sun to boot. But with the sea breeze knocking back the temperatures (and bringing in a round of downpours this evening), there are changes afoot.
