A Preview Of Spring

Posted by Jeremy Reiner

A week ago today I blogged about our coldest day of the winter with daytime highs only in the teens. What a difference a week makes as we will chase record highs across the northeast. Many towns are already starting the day at normal *high* temp levels--mid 30s--and we will only go up from here reaching the 50s by afternoon. In fact, our temperatures will be even warmer overnight tonight with many towns between 55-60!

To get all this warm (and fuzzy) air will require some work and that takes place in the form of wind. Not much wind this morning but during the afternoon that wind will really crank between 20-30mph and by tonight expect that wind to gust between 40-50mph--highest in Plymouth/Bristol counties as well as Cape Cod. At those wind gusts (50mph), some wind damage--and power loss is likely tonight. Rain will also be an issue from midnight & beyond with numerous downpours. Most towns will pick up between 1-2" of rain by early Thursday morning.

Thursday starts stormy: Windy & rainy but after 9am, sunshine returns and that wind will settle just a bit. The temps also get an attitude adjustment with the numbers starting near 60 by 7am but then falling into the low 50s by late morning and then into the 40s by afternoon. Seasonably cold weather returns for Friday & the weekend.

Like A Waterfall

If you were caught in those 'cloudbursts' today, you had more than you could handle in the rain department. Torrents fell in a short amount of time - what we deem 'flash flooding' in the weather biz. Since it happens suddenly, the National Weather Service has adopted the acronym TADD:

Thunderous Start to Workweek

Heat and a bit of humidity fed a strong - and sometimes severe - line of thunderstorms today. By the time the dinner hour rolled around (6pm-ish), the storms had consolidated into a line. Everyone got a drink of water and a big drop in temperatures - some falling nearly 20 degrees in minutes!

We'll Take Average

Posted by Chris Lambert

Well, we had a lot of clouds this afternoon, but at least not a lot of rain.  Sure a few showers were out there, scattered about, but hopefully they didn't ruin any plans you had with dad.  Temps made it into the mid to upper 70s, which is close to the average for this time of year.  In fact, the whole 7-day forecast is within 5 degrees of average each and every day.  That means lots of upper 70s and lower 80s on the board.  Not bad being average this time of year, huh?
