Rather busy in the weather center this morning. It's not often one tracks a nasty squall line on the last day of January but we had one this morning. Numerous reports of wind damage with gusts in excess of 60mph and even a gust to 81mph at the Blue Hill Observatory. In fact, many cities & towns had stronger wind gusts from this storm than Hurricane Sandy.
The good news is that the threat for damaging wind has passed and now we focus on a return to a winter pattern---one without squall lines! This system pushed temps up near 60 early this morning but just like that is taking the spring preview with it--out to sea. Afternoon temps will be cooler than where we are this morning but thermometers in the mid 40s at 2pm will still be above normal for this time of year. A chilly wind will take some of that mild feel out of the air. Plan on sunshine with a few clouds during the afternoon.
Cold & dry weather sweeps back into New England tonight and is with us to start off February. Temperatures tomorrow morning will be in the low 20s and afternoon highs will struggle to find the low 30s. #Reality. The weekend will offer seasonably cold weather both days with the risk of some light snow/flurries on Sunday. More on that tomorrow.

Our fun in the sun ends this afternoon as morning sunshine fades behind thickening clouds. As those clouds increase, a few showers break out this afternoon from west to east, with the highest chance for rain late afternoon and this evening. Most of the showers are light, especially the early afternoon ones, but a heavier shower or two is possible near day's end and early this evening. Highs reach the mid to upper 60s around noon, then fall back to near 60 mid to late afternoon thanks to scattered showers. These showers are brought to us by a warm front.

Quite a few clouds in the sky at times this afternoon, but the atmosphere lacked ample moisture to produce showers, so we made out just fine with temps near 70. Even the coast made it well into the 60s before the onshore wind knocked temps back.

Sure, it's a cool start with many of the suburbs down into the upper 30s and lower 40s, but we'll warm up quickly through the day as that sun helps us out.

An overall cooler day, but also a great end to the workweek as highs neared 70, low humidity continued and plenty of sunshine dominated the skies. Now all we need is this to continue through the weekend right?
