Wow---just like that it's February 1st. Winter is flying by and with days like yesterday it makes it go by faster. Today, it's back to reality with seasonably cold conditions. Daytime temps will hover near 33 but a gusty wind will make it feel like 23. That sun will share the sky with clouds for much of the day. Clear & cold weather tonight.
The weekend offers a continuation of cold but not bitter cold---just regular cold. Morning temps each day will be in the teens while afternoon highs reach the low 30s. Perhaps more importantly, much less wind on Saturday & Sunday---huge this time of year. We have sunshine tomorrow but on Sunday there will be a little storm that slides south of New England during the afternoon & evening hours. Once again, not a blockbuster but travel may get affected after 4pm Sunday--especially along the south shore (Rt 3)--and through Sunday evening. Snowfall totals look weak----1-3" with most of the snow confined to the coast.
Looking into next week, still no major snowstorms and no spring previews either as the jet stream will flow out of Canada and into the southeastern United States. That means seasonably cold weather for much of the week!
Best part of February is the amount of daylight we pick up--71 minutes!!

Have a great weekend!

Rain and drizzle continues tonight as temperatures drop into the mid 30s to 40 degrees. Any burst of heavier precip drags down colder air, and elevations above 1000 feet in northern Worcester County or southwester NH see wet snow mixing in overnight. No shovels or plows needed for us, but it is a sure sign how cold the atmosphere is for late May. As of this writing, Mt. Mansfield in VT has picked up 7.5" of snow and Whiteface Mtn. in NY has picked up 18"!

So it's the unofficial start of summer this weekend and officially, the average high this time of year hits 70 degrees. So you'd think we have a good shot at BBQ weather right? Not much of a chance today with highs reaching near 50 this morning, only to fall back into the low to mid 40s this afternoon as a cold rain settles in.

Rain, rain, rain...
...but for many today was a day of hurry up and wait. Sure there were showers, but not every minute was washed out. With the events unfolding tonight, that's about to change.

Heavy rain is on the move! All afternoon long it was stalled over Western Massachusetts and Connecticut. Heavy pulses of rain traveled over the same towns and cities - a process meteorologists call "training" - resulting in flash flooding in some counties to our west.
