Cold, Snow and Wind

Posted by Chris Lambert

The snow, cold and wind are with us this morning, making for a uncomfortably winter's morning.  It's a quick hitting storm, so snow totals fall well short of last weekends historic blizzard, nonetheless, we need to be careful out there today.  Snow is heaviest this morning near the coast, lighter outside 128, especially outside 495.  The timing of the storm has the snow ending by noon in many areas away from the coast (128 and west), around 1-2PM along the immediate coast, and not until 3-4PM for the Cape and Islands.

Not only do we have snow, but we'll deal with plenty of wind.  Gusting approach 40-50mph along the coast, and closer to 60mph for the Cape and Islands.  Factor in these strong winds, and wind chill factors run in the single digits through the day.

So how much?  Right now, it looks like many towns in the 128-495 belt pick up 2-4" of fluff, highest toward 128.  In Boston, I'm leaning more toward 4 to 5" at this point, with up to 7-9" across southern Plymouth County, the Cape and Islands.  Take a look at the "special map" section of the website for further details.

Tides are astronomically much lower this weekend and the strongest winds have an offshore component to them, so we're not expecting major issues with coastal flooding this time.

Warming Up and Unsettled

Posted by Chris Lambert

Well, it certainly was a great weekend weather-wise until this afternoon when the temps dropped and light showers moved in from west to east.  Despite the cool down, the theme for this upcoming week is warmer with higher humidity.  It'll also be unsettled at times.

Pulling The Fade

Posted by Chris Lambert

Our fun in the sun ends this afternoon as morning sunshine fades behind thickening clouds.  As those clouds increase, a few showers break out this afternoon from west to east, with the highest chance for rain late afternoon and this evening.  Most of the showers are light, especially the early afternoon ones, but a heavier shower or two is possible near day's end and early this evening.  Highs reach the mid to upper 60s around noon, then fall back to near 60 mid to late afternoon thanks to scattered showers.  These showers are brought to us by a warm front.

Back and Forth

Quite a few clouds in the sky at times this afternoon, but the atmosphere lacked ample moisture to produce showers, so we made out just fine with temps near 70.  Even the coast made it well into the 60s before the onshore wind knocked temps back.

Pretty Good Weekend Overall

Posted by Chris Lambert

Sure, it's a cool start with many of the suburbs down into the upper 30s and lower 40s, but we'll warm up quickly through the day as that sun helps us out.
