Snow Leaves, Cold & Wind Stay

Posted by Chris Lambert

It was just a glancing blow from a monster ocean storm to our east, but it was close enough to create a nasty second half of the weekend.  Snow totals weren't all that high, lots of 4-5" reports, but the wind made what snow we had blow, drift and reduce visibility all day long.

Officially at Logan Airport, we picked up 5.1" of snow.  The radar showed a heavier band of snow this morning over the airport, but not quite as heavy over the city.  That's why much of the metro area had slightly less.  Logan is where the official reports are held, and we're now up to 40.8" for the season (32" alone in the last 15 days). That's 11" ABOVE the average for being this far through winter.  Worcester has picked up 67.5" this winter so far.  That's almost 2 FEET above average.  Of course, much of the snow came in with the Blizzard.

The snow leaves us tonight, but the cold and wind stick around.  Winds gust past 40mph through midnight tonight, then fall back just a tad by daybreak tomorrow.  Factor in those strong winds with temps running in the teens, and wind chill factors fall to 0 and just below.

At least we'll have clearing skies overnight, and that means sunshine for Monday.  Temps manage to crack the 30 degree mark as well by the afternoon, although a strong breeze still adds a chill to the air.

Tuesday starts off fine, but in the afternoon a front races in with rain showers.  There will likely be just enough cold air left in place that a few sleet pellets and snow flakes mix in north of the Pike, especially closer to the NH border.  This is not a big rain or snow maker for us, but could add some puddles and slow downs for the evening commute.

Overnight Tuesday, into Friday look quiet.  Although by Friday evening and Saturday, we'll watch for the chance of more rain and snow showers.  This system looks disorganized now, but we'll have to keep an eye on it.

Enjoy the week.  You kids that have the week off from school... ski conditions should work out just fine!

Like A Waterfall

If you were caught in those 'cloudbursts' today, you had more than you could handle in the rain department. Torrents fell in a short amount of time - what we deem 'flash flooding' in the weather biz. Since it happens suddenly, the National Weather Service has adopted the acronym TADD:

Thunderous Start to Workweek

Posted by Pete Bouchard

Heat and a bit of humidity fed a strong - and sometimes severe - line of thunderstorms today. By the time the dinner hour rolled around (6pm-ish), the storms had consolidated into a line. Everyone got a drink of water and a big drop in temperatures - some falling nearly 20 degrees in minutes!

We'll Take Average

Posted by Chris Lambert

Well, we had a lot of clouds this afternoon, but at least not a lot of rain.  Sure a few showers were out there, scattered about, but hopefully they didn't ruin any plans you had with dad.  Temps made it into the mid to upper 70s, which is close to the average for this time of year.  In fact, the whole 7-day forecast is within 5 degrees of average each and every day.  That means lots of upper 70s and lower 80s on the board.  Not bad being average this time of year, huh?

Happy Father's Day

Posted by Chris Lambert

Happy Father's Day to all you dads out there, and to my dad as well.  So what's on tap for the day?  Golf, grilling, just hanging out? Whatever it is, all and all, it's still a pretty good day for dad weather-wise.  I wish I could say the Father's Day forecast exactly repeats Saturday, but we do have a few late afternoon showers to track.
