Grinding It Out

Posted by Pete Bouchard

Whoa, we're half way there.

OK, maybe a bit more than that. However, many folks are still standing around with their arms folded asking, "where's the beef?"

I hear you. Most areas dilly-dallied with nuisance snow that didn't accumulate all afternoon. Well, as night falls in this second phase of the storm, the drop in temperatures means the snow will start to stick areawide. So yes, that 3-6 inches in Boston is still on track (albeit on the lower end of that range) through tomorrow morning:

The big news of the day is the mini-jackpot around Wrentham, Sharon, Foxboro and Mansfield. With up to 7" already on the ground, this is essentially a "nowcast" - half of the forecasted amount is in the bag.

So the remaining hours of the storm:

  • Snow of varying intensities through the night. Fits and starts. Lulls and heavier pulses. In and out. Sideways. You get the idea.
  • Winds continue unrelenting. Gusts to 40-50 for most along the coast, 50-60 Cape/Islands.
  • Rain outer Cape may mix with snow toward AM.
  • Wrapup in the storm will come late tomorrow morning. Abrupt end near noon.

Snow is weighty and sticky. Isolated power outages are likely.

Hang in there...the weekend is bright, the temperatures warm through early next week, and although the extended forecast is chilly, it's also storm-free.

What a day! Breakneck temperature swings, thunder, tornadoes in Western Mass....and we're still in late May!

Summ-ah!

Posted by Pete Bouchard

With the snap of the fingers we were thrown into summer this afternoon. Heat, humidity, A/C and shorts - with a hazy sun to boot. But with the sea breeze knocking back the temperatures (and bringing in a round of downpours this evening), there are changes afoot.

Warming Up and Unsettled

Posted by Chris Lambert

Well, it certainly was a great weekend weather-wise until this afternoon when the temps dropped and light showers moved in from west to east.  Despite the cool down, the theme for this upcoming week is warmer with higher humidity.  It'll also be unsettled at times.

Pulling The Fade

Posted by Chris Lambert

Our fun in the sun ends this afternoon as morning sunshine fades behind thickening clouds.  As those clouds increase, a few showers break out this afternoon from west to east, with the highest chance for rain late afternoon and this evening.  Most of the showers are light, especially the early afternoon ones, but a heavier shower or two is possible near day's end and early this evening.  Highs reach the mid to upper 60s around noon, then fall back to near 60 mid to late afternoon thanks to scattered showers.  These showers are brought to us by a warm front.
