Winter's Grip Unrelenting

Posted by Chris Lambert

Folks,  I'll be honest with you.... I love a good snowstorm or two during the winter, but by March, I'm one of warm weather's biggest fans.  Even I'm waving the white flag at this point!  Enough is enough, and although I "only" see one more storm this upcoming week, the colder than average pattern looks to hold through the rest of the month.

Let's get to the St. Paddy's Day forecast first.  It'll be cold and breezy, highs in the mid 30s with wind chills down in the mid 20s.  At least we have the sunshine!  The core of the cold settles in overnight Sunday, with many of the suburbs dropping off into the mid teens and even some upper single digits possible in places like Pepperell and Orange.  That cold air set's the stage for Monday night and Tuesday's mess as it's slow to leave.

Storm Headlines:

-Starts well after the evening commute Monday... for most, it'll start near midnight.

-Initial burst of precip is mostly snow, even at the coast, and possibly the Cape too from midnight-3AM.

-Snow turns to rain quickly at the coast, well before the Tue AM commute

-Between 128 and 495, some mixing is likely by the AM commute, but a slow and slushy ride is expected.

-Northwest of 495, the cold holds and it's mainly snow, from Worcester, points north.  At least 6" of snow is likely there.

-Onshore winds are strong Tuesday morning, but not nearly as prolonged as last storm

-High tides also astronomically low... coastal flooding won't be nearly as extensive as last storm.  Minor erosion/splashover still possible.

If you were caught in those 'cloudbursts' today, you had more than you could handle in the rain department. Torrents fell in a short amount of time - what we deem 'flash flooding' in the weather biz. Since it happens suddenly, the National Weather Service has adopted the acronym TADD:

Thunderous Start to Workweek

Posted by Pete Bouchard

Heat and a bit of humidity fed a strong - and sometimes severe - line of thunderstorms today. By the time the dinner hour rolled around (6pm-ish), the storms had consolidated into a line. Everyone got a drink of water and a big drop in temperatures - some falling nearly 20 degrees in minutes!

We'll Take Average

Posted by Chris Lambert

Well, we had a lot of clouds this afternoon, but at least not a lot of rain.  Sure a few showers were out there, scattered about, but hopefully they didn't ruin any plans you had with dad.  Temps made it into the mid to upper 70s, which is close to the average for this time of year.  In fact, the whole 7-day forecast is within 5 degrees of average each and every day.  That means lots of upper 70s and lower 80s on the board.  Not bad being average this time of year, huh?

Happy Father's Day

Posted by Chris Lambert

Happy Father's Day to all you dads out there, and to my dad as well.  So what's on tap for the day?  Golf, grilling, just hanging out? Whatever it is, all and all, it's still a pretty good day for dad weather-wise.  I wish I could say the Father's Day forecast exactly repeats Saturday, but we do have a few late afternoon showers to track.
